Summary[]

After Bobby and Cindy watch a television adaptation of Cinderella on television, Bobby initially believes Cindy in that Bobby's stepmother Carol is a loving mother, unlike Cinderella's, but when older stepsisters Marcia and Jan tease him, and then Carol asks him to clean out the fireplace just like Cinderella's stepmother did, he starts to think otherwise. Carol altering some hand-me-down clothes for him, which Greg and Peter don't get, and all the older kids taking off for the evening, either without saying goodbye or telling him straight to his face that he can't go along, makes Bobby feel unloved.

Alice learns why Bobby is in such a down mood and tells Carol and Mike. They think the way to make Bobby feel loved is to get him an early birthday present of a bicycle.

Meanwhile, Bobby plans to run away from home, but is caught packing by Peter, and confides in him that he's running away. Peter passes on the information to Greg and Greg to Alice. The bicycle salesman shares some wise words with Carol and Mike. When they learn that Bobby is planning to run away, they decide what they really need to do to make Bobby feel cared for, especially by Carol.
