The Snooperstar was the 20th episode of Season 5 of the The Brady Bunch TV series, also the 115th overall episode in the series. Written by Harry Winkler, the episode, which was directed by Bruce Bilson, originally aired on ABC-TV on February 22, 1974.
Besides Season 2 episode The Tattle-Tale, this is the second of two episodes which Susan Olsen disliked. The episode was originally planned for first season, when she was 8 years old, yet it wasn't made until Season 5, and at the age of 12, Susan Olsen really felt uncomfortable playing a five-year old Shirley Temple.
Cindy becomes convinced that she is soon to be discovered as the new Shirley Temple. Cindy gets the notion that everybody in the family is talking about her, so she enlists the aid of Oliver to find what they're saying. Aware of this fact, Marcia decides to bait her little sister with an entry in her own diary about contacting a talent scout and submitting Cindy's picture. As planned, it gets back to Cindy.
To teach Cindy a lesson in reading her diary without permission, Marcia teases her by creating fake entries, with some help from Jan, about a Hollywood agent planning to discover Cindy and make her into the next Shirley Temple. Cindy becomes convinced that Mike's fussy client Penelope Fletcher (Natalie Schafer) is the talent scout, and Marcia can't talk Cindy out of this notion. Cindy shocks Mike with her impromptu Shirley Temple performance for Penelope, but Penelope is charmed by the act, ensuring that he will get the contract.
Marcia becomes fed up with Cindy constantly reading her diary. To teach her a lesson, she writes fake entries claiming that Cindy is secretly being chosen by a talent agent as the "new Shirley Temple." Cindy is convinced that she really will become a star and that a fussy client of Mike's is the talent agent.
